MCC Outreach - Ongoing Opportunities

Waco Arts Initiative

Mission:
Waco Arts Initiative believes that poverty is a deep rooted problem that stems from a lack of exposure and resources needed for individuals to envision a different life. WAI enables innovative and empowering opportunities for children living in poverty by providing access to the fine arts through instructional classes and mentoring relationships.
Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers are needed to work as a mentor to one student throughout the semester to achieve his/her artistic goals through music, theatre or visual arts. Once you are matched with a child, you will begin meeting one hour per week. Your main job is to encourage and to give the kids the opportunity to expound upon their art in an individual setting. All programs will receive new mentors at the beginning of each month.
Volunteer Requirements:
Each volunteer is required to fill out a background check.
Training:
Volunteers receive training on policies and procedures.
Time Commitment:
Preference is given to those who can commit to a full semester, volunteering consistently for 1-2 hours each week. Shifts include: Monday, Visual Art 3-5 PM. Wednesday, Theatrical Arts 3-5 PM. Friday, Visual Art 3-5 PM. Friday, Music 3:45-5 PM.
